IL CANNETO
The wine is obtained from a mixture of various clones of Sangiovese
grapes cultivated on the hills of the Maremma. This highly regarded
variety has attracted the attention of all ampeleographers.
Originated in
Tuscany it is cultivated throughout the region and widely diffused, in
numerous clones, in the Tuscan Maremma. The hot arid climate of the
Grosseto area, with few precipitations, acts as a limiting factor on
production. This is a benefit for the quality of the grapes. Especially for
Sangiovese grapes. |

MENTORE
The “Morellino” DOC
appellation and
the production
regulations for our area's
red wine were officially
introduced in 1978,
but the tradition
of winemaking dates
back to the time
of the Etruscans.
In 1813 the Mayor
of the Scansano
township sent a letter
to the Vice Prefect of Grosseto declaring that the previous year's
wine production in the Scansano area had reached 554,000 liters.
Some of them being of superior quality. “The wines of Magliano, Pereta and Scansano are excellent; few
areas produce such exquisite quality wine....”, wrote G. Barabino
in 1884 in a study on agricultural development in the Grosseto
province. From the 2007 vintage our Morellino di Scansano “Mentore” has obtained the highest national recognition for a
wine: “Denominazine di Origine Controllata e Garantita” (DOCG). |

SAN GIUSEPPE
The San Giuseppe homestead, an old stone farmhouse in the Fattoria
Mantellassi estate, gives its name to this Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G.
selection. After the vintage in the month of January, the year's best lots
of Morellino are selected and aged in small French oak barrels for about
six months. After 2-3 months of bottle aging this wine boasts excellent
organoleptic qualities: a superior smooth and balanced vinous bouquet,
and a pleasant fresh taste. |

LE SENTINELLE
Le Sentinelle is the top of the
line in Fattoria Mantellassi’s
Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.
production.
It takes its name from the
2.5 ha hillside vineyard
where the grapes are grown.
This wine is produced
with Morellino
grapes: an autoctonous
Sangiovese clone
which gave its name
to the DOC appellation.
In cooperation with the
Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo,
Fattoria Mantellassi carried out a clonal selection of the Morellino variety
in the Le Sentinelle vineyard.
Thanks to this initiative, the three Sangiovese-Morellino clones in Italy
were officially recognized for the first time. |

QUERCIOLAIA
Alicante was one of the
first grape varieties planted
in the Fattoria Mantellassi.
Found throughout Spain,
where it is known as
Granaxa, and in France as
Grénage, this variety has
many biotypes.
It probably arrived
in the Magliano in Toscana
and Scansano hillsides
during the Spanish
occupation in 1600.
First produced in 1977,
Querciolaia is a wine with
a long cellar life and excellent
organoleptic characteristics. It is widely appreciated for its composite
bouquet and its warm, unfussy, smooth and velvety palate. |

ALÌ ALÈ
The name “Alì Alè” is taken
from the two grapes
this wine is made with:
Alicante and Aleatico.
Alicante is a Spanish grape
imported in our area
in 16th century,
Aleatico is a local grape.
Ezio Mantellassi implanted
them both in 1960
when he acquired the farm.
Aleardo Mantellassi decided
to make a Passito
with these varietals.
The result is a very unique and high quality wine, much appreciated
for its sweet, intense fruity flavour. |
